XCM sponsors Gibraltar Rugby Football Union, otherwise known as the National Team (NT). They played the Marines on Saturday 30th September at Victoria Stadium. The game was watched by around 2000 paying fans, with VIP guests from Lottoland, Gamesys and Bet Victor, alongside the Governor of Gibraltar and various Ministers from both sides of the isle.
The match was a hard-fought contest, with the NT making better use of the ball while the Marines used their physicality to tire the team down. After a strong performance from both sides the NT went into the 2nd half 14 to 0.
After losing 6 key players to injuries, the NT’s teams legs began to get heavy and mistakes were made, while the Marines basic fitness came through, as did a more cohesive playing strategy. In the end the match resulted in a 21-21 draw. Despite the draw, both the fans and XCM clients had an enjoyable day.
Later that evening at the player presentations, XCM donated a 9-litre bottle of wine which helped to raise £11,000 for the Marines Benevolent Fund. In this case the fund was to help Mark Ormrod to be re-fitted with three new limbs. Andy Masters commented:
“It’s a joy for XCM to be associated with the Gibraltar Rugby, who’s values are identical to that of XCM and everyone who works for us which are; Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. I am looking forward to a full season of events over the coming year, not least the away game result in Hungary on the 6th October.”
