Facebook’s Europe, Middle East & Africa VP Nicola Mendelsohn announced at the CBI conference yesterday.
The social media and technology giant Facebook has committed to adding another 500 technical staff to its UK workforce. The offices in Fitzrovia, London are currently being redeveloped to house the planned 50% increase in the workforce.
The expansion will increase the highly skilled engineering staff to a total of 1500, the largest outside the US, and also reinforces the apparent post-Brexit confidence in continual investment in the UK.
One of the high profile projects to have been developed within the capital is the recently released Workplace platform which enhances intra-company communications.
Sadiq Khan, London’s Mayor echoed the opinion of CBI members, stating “Facebook’s decision to expand in London is further evidence that one of London’s strengths is a world class tech hub”.
After the announcement of Google’s £1Billion UK expansion last week, Mayor Khan reiterated his previous comments that “The capital’s vibrant tech scene is the envy of Europe and Facebook’s continuing commitment is another sign that London is open to talent, innovation and entrepreneurship from all four corners of the world”
Graham Ibbetson, XCM’s Managing Director, who recently expanded his company into the same locale, agrees that the abilities and caliber of UK techies is second to none, and considers the decision to position his new office there was a no-brainer.
